Grass Roots Justice Awards 2024

Thank you so much to all of our friends and supporters for another fantastic Grass Roots Justice Awards! Last Thursday, we gathered together to celebrate those who are fighting for a fairer, more just Georgia. Check out our recap & photos of our awardees below!

Sheandra Clark Volunteer of the Year - Korynn Mendoza, Home Depot

Volunteerism is at the strategic core of service delivery for GJP's clients. Annually, GJP works with 200 volunteer attorneys who donate over 2,000 in-kind hours of time and, last year, nearly $600,000 in pro bono legal services. Individuals and groups also support our clients in other ways, including facilitating family visitations in prison, completing pardon applications, and conducting intake interviews for prospective clients. Korynn Mendoza first began volunteering for intake in February 2022. Since then, she has staffed 22 intake shifts and interviewed 66 applications for GJP's services. In 2023, 13 of the individuals Korynn interviewed went on to become GJP clients. Korynn is always prepared and ready to engage with individuals in need of GJP's services and continues to generously commit an invaluable number of hours to our clients and mission.

Corporate Partner of the Year – Pedro Cherry, Atlanta Gas Light & Chattanooga Gas

Since 2021, Pedro Cherry and the team at Atlanta Gas Light & Chattanooga Gas have been partners to GJP across the entire scope of GJP's mission and theory of change, supporting the implementation of SB 288, the establishment of three Second Chance Desks in Georgia, and numerous record restriction summits across the state. They have also supported many other aspects of our work, including the development of the Warrant Resolution Clinic, aiding in the growth of our volunteer base, and advocating for our systemic policy change priorities.
